Usage Note

Raie is polysemous: it means a stripe or line on fabric or a surface, the part or parting in one's hair, and the marine animal the ray (also called raie pastenague for the stingray). The feminine gender distinguishes it from rai (m, literary ray of light). The plural raies is regular.
