révolu

past, bygone, over

adjective reh-voh-LOO Rare

Origin: from Latin 'revolutus'

Usage Note

révolu describes a period of time that has fully elapsed and will not return: une époque révolue = a bygone era. It only ever modifies periods, ages, or spans of time — you would not use it of a broken object. The feminine form is révolue. Close in feel to the literary English 'elapsed' or 'past.'

Examples

"Cette époque est maintenant révolue."

Natural Translation

That era is now over.
