Résident can refer to a legal resident of a country, a resident of a care home, or in medical contexts, a hospital resident (junior doctor in training). The feminine form is résidente. In legal contexts, résident permanent ('permanent resident') is a fixed phrase. As an adjective it means 'residing' — population résidente ('resident population').
