Usage Note

Réciter means to say aloud from memory, most commonly a poem, prayer, or lesson. Réciter une leçon means to recite a lesson (also used metaphorically for a rehearsed speech). The noun récitation is the act of reciting, also the name of a dictation-style exercise in French schools.
