Usage Note

Règle means both a rule or regulation (les règles du jeu, the rules of the game) and the physical ruler used for drawing lines. The plural les règles is also a common term for a woman's menstrual period in everyday French. The verb régler (to regulate, to settle, to tune) is closely related.
