Usage Note

Péquenot (also spelled péquenaud) is a mildly derogatory colloquial term for an unsophisticated person from the countryside. It is used humorously or condescendingly and carries urban bias. The feminine form is péquenote. It is broadly equivalent to 'yokel' in English register.
