prévoir

to foresee, to plan

verb preh-VWAHR Less Common

Also means

to forecast

Usage Note

Prévoir is conjugated like voir but is irregular in some tenses — notably the future je prévoirai (not je prévoisrai). It is used for planning (prévoir une réunion, to schedule a meeting) and forecasting (prévoir la pluie, to forecast rain). The past participle prévu as an adjective means 'planned' or 'scheduled' (comme prévu, as planned).

Examples

"Il faut prévoir du temps pour le trajet."

Natural Translation

You need to plan time for the journey.
