Prostitué is the masculine form; the feminine prostituée is more commonly encountered. Both can function as nouns or past participles of the verb prostituer. The abstract noun la prostitution is used in social and legal discourse, and the informal term faire le trottoir ('to walk the streets') is a colloquial equivalent.
