Usage Note
Olympique derives from Olympe, the Greek mountain home of the gods, and by extension the ancient Olympic games at Olympia. In France, many sports clubs use the name — most famously l'Olympique de Marseille (OM) and l'Olympique Lyonnais (OL). The feminine form is also olympique (no change). Les Jeux olympiques are the Olympic Games.
