Occasionnel describes something that happens from time to time rather than regularly — un travail occasionnel ('casual/occasional work'), une visite occasionnelle. The feminine form is occasionnelle. The adverb occasionnellement ('occasionally') is a useful companion. It is more formal than de temps en temps or parfois.
