Usage Note

Niche primarily means a recess in a wall for a statue or object, and by extension a specialized market or role: une niche commerciale is a market niche. It also means a doghouse (la niche du chien). The command à la niche! is used to send someone away or put them in their place, like ordering a dog to its kennel.
