Mijoter literally means to cook something slowly at low heat — laisser mijoter (let it simmer). Figuratively, mijoter un complot means to hatch a plot. It is also used reflexively for a person: se mijoter quelque chose (to be cooking something up). The related noun mijoteuse refers to a slow cooker appliance.
