Usage Note
Linceul refers specifically to the cloth in which a body is wrapped for burial. The most famous example is le Saint-Suaire de Turin, which is also known as le linceul de Turin. The word is literary and formal; everyday burial preparations use more practical vocabulary. The plural is linceuls.
