issue

outcome

noun ee-SOO Less Common

Also means

exit

Usage Note

Issue is a false friend for English speakers: it does NOT mean 'issue' in the sense of a problem or topic, but rather a way out or a final outcome. Sans issue means 'with no way out' or 'dead end'. The phrase une issue de secours is an emergency exit.

Examples

"La situation n'a pas d'issue favorable."
