imper

raincoat

noun ehm-PEHR Rare

Usage Note

Imper is the everyday clipped form of imperméable, which is the full word for a waterproof coat or mackintosh. In spoken French, the short form imper is far more common. The adjective imperméable also means 'waterproof' or 'impermeable' and can stand alone as a noun in more formal contexts. Both are masculine.

Examples

"N'oublie pas ton imper, il va pleuvoir."
