Usage Note
Illusion covers both a perceptual trick (illusion d'optique = optical illusion) and a false belief (se faire des illusions = to kid oneself). Perdre ses illusions means to become disillusioned. The verb illusionner is less common; désillusion ('disillusionment') is the frequent derivative.
