Usage Note
Ignorance is always feminine (une ignorance). The phrase être dans l'ignorance de quelque chose means to be unaware of something. The related adjective ignorant(e) can be used as both adjective and noun ('an ignorant person'), and the verb ignorer means not only 'to ignore' but more commonly 'to not know'.
