Horloge refers specifically to a large, stationary clock such as a wall clock, tower clock, or grandfather clock — not the wristwatch (montre) or small mantel clock (pendule). L'horloge tourne ('the clock is ticking') is a standard idiom for time running out. The word is feminine: une horloge.
