Usage Note

homo is an informal but generally non-derogatory shortening used in French conversation; the full forms are homosexuel / homosexuelle. It functions as both adjective and noun, and is invariable in form. In contemporary French media gay (borrowed from English) is also widely used, particularly for men, while homo remains a neutral colloquial alternative.
