Usage Note

Grillon refers to the chirping cricket, famous for its nocturnal song, le chant du grillon. Do not confuse it with criquet or sauterelle, both grasshopper-like insects. The intransitive verb grillonner (rarely used) means 'to chirp like a cricket'.
