Gelé is the past participle of geler (to freeze) used as an adjective. It can describe a frozen body of water (un lac gelé), extremely cold weather (il fait gelé), or numb body parts (j'ai les pieds gelés). The feminine form is gelée, which is also a standalone noun meaning frost or jelly (as in gelée de groseilles — redcurrant jelly).
