Froid as an adjective agrees with gender: froid (m) / froide (f). As a noun (le froid), it means 'the cold' as a physical phenomenon. Like faim, temperatures use avoir: avoir froid means 'to be cold' (referring to a person), while il fait froid describes cold weather.
