Fiancer is almost always used reflexively as se fiancer (to get engaged to marry). Il se fiance avec elle means 'he gets engaged to her'. The noun fiancé (m) / fiancée (f) has been borrowed directly into English. The engagement ring is une bague de fiançailles.
