Fan is a direct English borrowing used in French for an enthusiastic admirer of a celebrity, team, or genre. It is invariable in gender in practice, though un/une fan are both used. The more formal French equivalent is admirateur/admiratrice or passionné(e), but fan dominates informal speech.
