Usage Note

Entité is used in philosophical, legal, administrative, and scientific contexts to refer to a thing that exists as a distinct unit: une entité juridique ('a legal entity'). It is more abstract and formal than chose or objet. In computing and linguistics, entité is also the standard term for 'entity' (as in named-entity recognition).
