Enfermé is the past participle of enfermer (to lock up, to confine) used as an adjective. It can describe a person physically confined (enfermé dans sa chambre) or someone mentally closed off (enfermé dans ses idées). The feminine form is enfermée; as a verb participle it agrees with the subject in compound tenses.
