Dépecer means to dismember or cut up a carcass; in hunting it describes the initial field-dressing of game. Figuratively it can mean to tear apart an organisation or territory: dépecer une entreprise (to carve up a company). Note the spelling alternation: il dépèce but nous dépeçons.
