Usage Note
Démocrate functions as both a noun (un démocrate convaincu) and an adjective (un parti démocrate). It is invariable in gender as a noun, though as an adjective the feminine démocrate is already the same form. In French political vocabulary, it contrasts with autoritaire and is distinct from social-démocrate (social democrat).
Examples
"Elle se considère comme une démocrate engagée."
Natural Translation
She considers herself a committed democrat.
