domestic (adjective)

Usage Note

Domestique as an adjective means 'household' or 'tame' (animaux domestiques = 'domestic animals'). As a noun it historically meant a servant; today it is somewhat old-fashioned, replaced by employé de maison. In cycling, a domestique is a team rider who supports the leader — the term is used this way even in English.
