Usage Note

Disparition covers the disappearance of a person, object, or species (la disparition d'une espèce). It is also used as a euphemism for death, particularly in the formal phrase depuis sa disparition ('since his passing'). The verb is disparaître and the adjective disparu means 'gone' or 'deceased'.
