Usage Note

Déguster implies slow, appreciative tasting rather than mere eating or drinking. Une dégustation de vins is a wine tasting. Colloquially it can also mean 'to take a beating' or 'to suffer': Il va déguster! ('He's going to get it!'). The noun is dégustation.
