Défoncé literally describes something whose bottom or surface has been broken through — une route défoncée is a road full of potholes. In colloquial French it also means very high on drugs or extremely drunk. The verb défoncer means to smash through or to break down (a door, a wall). The informal sense is very common in casual speech.
