Confiserie refers both to the craft of making sweets and to the shop where they are sold. Classic French confiseries include calissons, berlingots, and nougat. The person who makes or sells confectionery is a confiseur (masculine) or confiseuse (feminine). The verb confire (to preserve in sugar or fat) is the root and also gives confiture (jam).
