collaboration

collaboration

noun koh-lah-boh-rah-SYOHN Rare

Usage Note

Collaboration means working together, but in France it also carries the heavy historical weight of la Collaboration — the cooperation of the Vichy government with Nazi Germany during WWII. Collaborateur can therefore be loaded with negative connotation in certain contexts. In neutral professional contexts, travailler en collaboration simply means 'to work together'.

Examples

"Cette collaboration a donné d'excellents résultats."

Natural Translation

This collaboration produced excellent results.
