Usage Note
Côté is central to several fixed expressions: à côté de (next to, beside), de ce côté-ci (on this side), mettre de côté (to set aside, to save money), and d'un côté… de l'autre (on one hand… on the other). The circumflex on the o distinguishes it from cote (rating, elevation). It is always masculine.
