Usage Note

Braguette specifically refers to the zippered or buttoned opening at the front of trousers or jeans. The classic embarrassing warning is ta braguette est ouverte ('your fly is open'). The historical braguette was also a padded codpiece worn in 16th-century European men's fashion, a piece of armour history that some dictionaries still mention.
