Usage Note

Bascule literally means a seesaw or rocking motion, and by extension any tipping/rocking mechanism — scales with a tilting platform, a drawbridge (pont basculant), or a logic circuit 'flip-flop'. The verb basculer means 'to tip over' or 'to switch' (e.g. basculer vers le numérique — to switch to digital).
