Usage Note

Çà almost always appears in the fixed phrase çà et là ('here and there'), which describes scattered distribution. On its own as an archaic adverb meaning 'here,' it is essentially obsolete in modern French. Do not confuse with ça (that, it), which has no cedilla.

"Des fleurs poussaient çà et là."

Natural Translation

Flowers were growing here and there.
